Oh wow, didn’t know it was in low supply. I’m guessing if you can’t find it at Nunu’s, Marcello’s, or Ambassador Caffery W&S, May be hard to get. But I used to be able to easily find it at Albertsons or super 1 Come to think of it, the first bottle of bourbon I ever bought on my own was Eagle Rare. It was at Albertsons on Ambassador back when the liquor was in an adjacent wing of the building. I did it at Mel Rock's suggestion. I've been taking his advice ever since.
And, it's cost me a helluva lot of money.
Well, I'm definitely gonna be on the look out now. So far all suggestions have been spot on. Especially Angels Envy

Sipping on 4 Roses tonight. I usually get the single barrel, but since times are so tough these days I wanted to try the small batch to compare.
We'll, I certainly don't have to most refined palate, but the difference to me is very negligible. It's damn smooth. I don't sense much that justifies a $20+ difference in price.

I started a Burbon thread on RP that I really enjoyed.. I started my Bourbon adventure about 6 moths ago and I have become a huge fan.. My first venture was Buffalo Trace. At Jay Birds and Mat's suggestion I tried Angels Envy.. I love it period. Another poster on RP suggested Jefferson's.. I tried it and now its a close second to Angels Envy.. Like I said, I have discovered that Bourbon is a relished vice like beer and cigars.. I'm open to suggestions... I bought a bottle of Basil Haydens tonight made by Wild Turkey.. Disappointed. Kind of lacking in flavor and just to easy and smooth. No bite. Great thread! I tried Angels Envy a few weeks ago for the first time and really enjoyed it. Jefferson small batch will always have a place in my heart. Bought a bottle of Jefferson's small batch to watch a certain presidential election late into the night/early morning a few years ago, still have that bottle, empty of course.
My standard go to's are normally Buffalo Trace, Bulliet and Jameson. I have a tough time going above the $30 range for a bottle of anything. With that said if you guys really want to try something unique I would highly recommend a scotch called Lagavulin. The price range is anywhere from $70-100 for a bottle but I promise you won't regret it. I try to keep it around for special occasions. Maybe try it at a bar first (around $15 a glass), I know Pour has it. The smell to me is akin to a well oiled leather baseball glove, that's the best I can describe it. I've never tasted anything like it and it ruined all other scotch for me.
I mentioned this in the original thread but a Total Wine & More is opening on Ambassador soon. One just opened in Metairie. They will have everything you would want and the best prices I have found. Its like a Costco for alcohol, although I highly recommend supporting local business like Nunu's, however Total Wine will have what you can't find at a local smaller biz.

NuNus in Youngsville is selling for $11.99/fifth, ~$20/handle. I couldn’t pass it up. Hell, I live in Broussard and Nu Nu s is my go to spot for booze. Esteban, the short Spanish dude is a wealth of liquor info. That man knows his stuff, nice guy too! Always gives good recommendations.

Pulled a bottle of Old Forester Birthday bourbon out of the cabinet last night. Their yearly birthday bottles are GREAT! If you ever seen one around, its worth the money. Limited release each year.

Anyone else ending their weekend with a pour?

What a special edition like that costs. I never had old forester. I honestly have never paid for one. I have a buddy in NOLA that gets them for me. From what I researched in the past, I thought it was about $80 a bottle. Quick Google search is suggesting that the price will be around $130 for this years version. www.kentucky.com/lexgoeat/bourbon/article243732872.htmlLooking a few other places online, I see some selling for over $1000. Think it might be about time to bootleg. Might just go check to see if I have an unopened bottle to put on the market.
