I went to Joey's and got a bottle of Virgil Kaine Wheated. Big fan of that South Carolina bourbon.

I'm just gonna say.....
I love Blanton's.
And, it has never tasted better than it did after the final out last night.

Did a blind taste test at the last watch party. Blantons vs Angels Envy. Wasn't close. Blantons the clear winner. AE good stuff too and more accessible than Blantons but Blantons is so smooth

How about Willet ? Any good ? I like it. I bought a big bottle for a friend and when she and her husband were done, she made a lamp out of the bottle for me. They both liked it a lot. I do too but haven't bought any in quite some time.
I either need to drink more or buy less. I've got 12 bottles on the shelf. It ranges from the very inexpensive to the "I don't buy that very often"
Very Old Barton--I find it in Texas all the time. About $20 for the big bottle, or you can get the fifth for about $13. For the price, it's good.
Weller's--Again, it's plentiful in Texas. About $21 for a fifth or $38 for the big bottle
Buffalo Trace--To me, it's the best bottle you can get for under $25. They sell it under 20 at Total Wine
Sazerac Rye--I really like a good rye and this is inexpensive. For you who don't drink it neat, it makes a GREAT old fashioned. Again, under 20 at Total Wine
Virgil Kaine Double Barrel--I've actually not opened the bottle yet. But I've loved every different kind of Virgil Kaine, out of South Carolina. This ran me just under 30 bucks.
Angel's Envy--It's my favorite bourbon, dollar for dollar. $38 at Total Wine, about 43 elsewhere.
Russell's Single Barrel Private Reserve. I like the ten year old Russell's (about $35). I paid 43 for this one. Haven't tried it yet but I know I'm going to like it.
Four Roses Single Barrel--About 40 bucks. I can tell the difference between the single barrel and the regular but many people cannot. I get the single barrel just to be a snob.
Virgil Kaine Wheated Rye--I'm a fan of a good rye. As I said, I like everything Virgil Kaine puts out. This is really good. Paid $58 at Joey's for it.....Joey's is the only place in town I've ever seen Virgil Kaine.
Colonel E. H. Taylor Single Barrel Bottled in Bond--I was at Total Wine one day and asked about it and the girl went into the back and came out with a bottle. I wanted to hug her. You used to get this pretty regularly but it's pretty rare to find it now. Not as hard as Blantons, but still..... I paid 53 for it and would have bought two if she would have sold them to me.
Blanton's--What can you say? You almost never see it on the shelves in Lafayette. The bars get it all. I've seen it at Champagnes, but they have it packaged as a gift set with other stuff and charge anywhere from 150 to 300, depending on the gift set. No thanks. I paid $55 off the shelf last year in Massachusetts. Paid $68 for this bottle.
Jefferson's Ocean--It's the most expensive bourbon I have. The wheated version (which is on my shelf) runs about $75. The regular is close to $90. Like AE and Blantons, it's as smooth as it gets
Oh, and I have a bottle of 15 year old Knob Creek. Paid 82 for it which is a very good price. I'm saving that for MelRock's bourbon room debut.

Nice selection, Jay. Agreed on Buffalo Trace. I always keep a bottle on hand, typically my go to for cocktails requiring bourbon, but can sip it neat too.
My recent additions have been Elijah Craig Small Batch and Amador Double Barrel Bourbon. I've been having trouble resupplying my cabinet with a bottle of Eagle Rare, so the Elijah Craig Small Batch was recommended to me as a suitable replacement. Definitely fits the bill. Didn't get to sit and enjoy the Amador yet.

Eagle Rare was the first bottle of bourbon I ever bought.

Has anyone tried the LA 1 bourbon from the Bayou Terrebonne distillery? Wondering if some of the local stuff is worth trying

NuNus in Youngsville currently has Buffalo Trace Single Barrel for $29.99 for those interested. I was able to pick up a bottle this evening.
