Rode my bike around the old strip the other day and was shocked by the trashiness of the area and disrepair of most of the buildings. An absolute eyesore The university should make a push to buy up these properties to turn it into a commercial district that would be attractive to students. The strip was always an eyesore during the day time but mysteriously improved in the dark (or maybe it was after a few adult beverages ) I agree a cleanup of that area would be nice. IMO, the eventual enforcement of the 21 drinking age law led to the strips demise. It wasn’t until sometime around 2008-2010 or so until it was actually enforced 2013 was when it died I was a senior in highschool in 2008 sand we would go party at shannahns & the Keg on the strip What would you do for $100 and penny pitchers turn me from a boy into a man

Schlumberger just announced a RIF of 21,000. This is going to get a LOT worse before it gets better.

I’m not sure there is an opportunity to make a killing on anything in LAFAYETTE in the relative near future other than Covid testing or Masks. By the time it's done, Covid will only be a distant, painful memory. We need people with some foresight in this town, Vic FORESKIN you mean.. Ha The truth is actually the opposite. Now and in the near future is the time to invest and wait, if you have some money stashed. Just like the best time to buy coastal properties is after a hurricane. I'd invest in that area, if the right group and/or situation presented itself. I still believe in the strip! Lets bring it back.

I started DJing at Andy Jacks in 1982. In the fall of 1983, Andy Jacks became Nitecaps and I started DJing there late that fall. Later I would move on to the Keg, Poets, and the Pub, along with having my own DJing business. I have seen it all through the years. I remember cheerleaders on top of the Keg for pep rallies. Okay, maybe not all of it, but a lot.

In the past few weeks I drove by Schlumberger in Youngsville, Halliburton and Baker on 90. All three had company vehicles sitting in the lot with the logos all removed, ready for disposal. FSBOs popping up on FB and such. I'm afraid you are correct Vic, has that 80's feel in the air. Covid is just the topping on the rotten cake. I wasn’t around lafayette in the early 80’s (I was born elsewhere in early 80’s) but a lot of people involved with the oil field industry keep saying this. From my experience, the offshore oil field industry never recovered from the 2014-2015 downturn although things somewhat stabilized. I sincerely hope this latest is not a repeat of the mid 80’s. The root issue is not covid related but the China bs is just compounding it I work at that Baker Hughes facility on Hwy 90. Majority of us have been working from home since end of March. Current plan is to remain working from home until at least September 1st. Honestly I can see corporate office extending the "work from home" order through the end of the year. No, oilfield didn't fully recover from 2014/15. Don't think we will fully recover from this before the next "downturn" comes. I'm just happy to have a job. Back to topic ... I would love to see a restoration project of McKinley Street. A sport's bar / shopping area would be awesome in that area. Don't know how many of you have been to the new Atlanta Braves stadium. I'm picturing a smaller version of The Battery.
