Savoie wrote a piece here praising the students after the protest in Lafayette.

Gunner? I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a negative word uttered against him by a Cajun fan. Should he hang it up?

Gunner Leger is not in charge of university policy, and the spending of public as well as privately donated money. Never said he was. He has been a great ambassador to this university. My question is if the university should distance itself from all associated with it (players, coaches, former players, administrators, athletic department personnel) who have shown support for the movement? Will board members direct their funds away from individuals who show support for this movement?

Let me make myself clear: people should spend their money however they see fit. If this issue offends you, god bless. Put your money to use in something you stand by. however, why would I believe that someone really cares about this community when they will pull their funds from our community’s university and move those funds to a university in a different community that supports the same ideals you’re supposedly opposed to?

I definitely do not envy T-Joe's role in this environment.
You make comments like he did and you upset your donors.
You stay silent and you upset your staff, students and student-athletes.
Pick your poison.

I was not aware that board members directed funds toward Gunner Leger, but I suppose if they disagree with him and somehow support him financially they are free to spend their money how they see fit. I don't see how that's remotely related to a university official doing the same thing. As far as other university officials, I would think the same donors are not happy about that as well (though I certainly don't know that for sure). However, Savoie is the leader, the buck stops there. If I donated significant money to the university and was concerned with it associating itself with an organization run by communists and domestic terrorists, I would definitely take my issue directly to the top. Not some mid level official and definitely not to a 24 year old minor league baseball player.

That’s not to say that people would actually do it but god damn would it fit the bill for our “fanbase”:
Students: “Tailgating isn’t cushy enough for us, but yeah we don’t mind driving all the way to BR on a Saturday.”
Casual fans: “you mean I have to WALK ACROSS THE STREET to see a game? Nah. I think I’ll drive to BR and hike a mile to the stadium.” “Nah. It’s too cold to go out today. I’ll watch from home. Wait...you’ve got tickets to see LSU play in Anchorage tomorrow. I’ll book the flights.”
I could easily see “I’m not gonna support UL for supporting BLM. LSU does too? Well I can’t miss my Tigahs. Morals be damned.”
When it’s every other day we have to hear about one group’s new reason not to support the university, it’s time to face facts. People in this community just aren’t that interested in UL. There are PLENTY of people in BR who hate BLM. Tiger Stadium will be filled beyond capacity when sports start back up. TAF will be fine. Alex Box will be packed. The Saints have supported BLM. You won’t be snatching up dirt cheap seats for games in the Super Dome when sports return. BLM isn’t the issue here. The issue that’s presented is never the issue.

These people were getting praised. When others get mentioned, it piques my curiosity to see if the feelings are consistent down the line. I’m not saying you shouldn’t take your issue to the top. If it upsets you, pull your funds. If you feel your private donations are being mishandled and used to support things against your morals, that is a great option. I’m just not convinced that anyone who would strip money from UL in this situation and drop it to LSU is pro this community.

It’s not an issue. It is a Marxist insurrection movement disguised as racially motivated. In lesser countries these groups would be systematically executed. Instead the university leadership, is aligned with the foundation of that movement.

I hear the detractors continue to say this social issue is about Marxist, however they never address the fact that the supporters are trying to make a point that Black people live should matter equally in this country, and things need to change for that to become a reality. If anyone only see's Marxist and cant separate the main point then there is no common ground, and the donor/University separation needs to occur even if money for the University is lost.

Pick your poison. Its a sad place to find his self in, but his responsibility is to his staff, and students, including the athletes first and then donors secondly.

If anyone only see's Marxist and cant separate the main point then there is no common ground, and the donor/University separation needs to occur even if money for the University is lost. The entire point is that Black people's lives already matter equally in this country. Is there racism on a personal level? Of course, and we should all do our best to eliminate racism from ourselves. But there is no systemic racism in this country. Every citizen is protected equally under the law. The very definition of systemic is "Embedded within the integral framework of a system." There is no racism embedded within the Constitution and laws of the United States, or within the Constitution and laws of any US State, or among the laws and ordinances of any political subdivision within any US State. In fact, ALL Constitutions, laws and ordinances in the US are subject to explicit declarations prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, religion or ethnic origin. There is absolutely no inconsistency in saying: I absolutely support equality of opportunity and equal protection under the law for every citizen of the United States; but I do not support Black Lives Matter, as it is an organization which expressly espouses acts of violence and destruction of property, and it holds political views which are diametrically opposed to the Constitution and laws of the United States. That statement is not a repudiation of Black people, nor does it show a lack of concern for minorities. It does show disdain for an organization that has co-opted the noble cause of racial equality.
