With cases being reported as they have been.. Is there ANY CHANCE that JBE moves us back to Phase 1 and starts shutting down things again? I know they are doing a modified Phase 1 in New Orleans. You think there is any chance we get bumped down statewide?

There is always a chance. But I think JBE is okay with the modified phase II. But if cases continue to skyrocket, who knows.

You think there is any chance we get bumped down statewide? JBE came out last week and basically said more restrictions are not necessary. He said the bottom line is, people will either do the responsible thing or they won’t. He can’t “restrict our way out of this COVID problem.”

JBE won't do anything. His tone has completely changed in the last few weeks. He's coasting to the end of his term.

Just curious, how are things in Lafayette right now? I don't mean the numbers, I mean boots-on-the-ground reporting. Do people know a lot of people that have it? Really sick from it?
In Houston, the numbers aren't quite as bad (yet) as they were in the June/July timeframe. But the circle definitely feels like it is closing in. During the entire summer, I knew maybe 10 people that got it the entire time. Right now, I know probably 20-30 people that have it right now...some very sick. Sounds like its getting pretty rough out there.

In the past 3 weeks, I’d say, conservatively 12-15 in my closest circle (not including their children and extended families that had to quarantine) have tested positive. That I know of, only 1 serious case (ventilator used). My neighbor is a doctor at LGMC and we speak often. When things get rough, I can tell by his long hours and short convos. The last time we visited, he was concerned about the rapidly increasing patient count. I haven’t seen him much since.

All I can say is that I have never been in favor of shutting down the economy and I went a long time without wearing a mask. However, as time went on, I tried to conform and started wearing a mask when going into stores and in public places as requested. I have recently noticed that many more people are wearing masks in stores and public places than were doing so early on. For many months I really didn't know anyone personally that suffered with the China Virus but over the past month or so I am now aware of a number of my friends that have tested positive for the virus. Fortunately, none have gotten extremely ill. As a matter of fact, I also tested Positive in early December and thankfully had virtually no adverse affects from COVID.
My observation and conclusion is that the wearing of masks does not have nearly the positive effect of controlling the spread of the virus as we have been led to believe. IMHO, the cat (Virus) has been let out of the bag and, regardless of what we try to do, the virus will run it's course. If the vaccine works, that will be what will stem the tide. In the meantime, the election is over and the economy should be reopened 100% and people should be allowed to resume their lives and get back to normal.

I have been in quarantine, only going out for groceries, gas, and the ATM. Tested negative on Jan. 2 because of close contact with a positive person. Had my first vaccine on Jan. 8th and the second will be on Jan. 29. The question, will that make me immune to this virus or will I have to remain in quarantine until the masses have taken the vaccine?

Had my first vaccine on Jan. 8th and the second will be on Jan. 29. The question, will that make me immune to this virus or will I have to remain in quarantine until the masses have taken the vaccine? My understandings of vaccines, and I’m no virologist or medical professional, is that if they’re saying the vaccine is 95% effective, then there’s a 95% chance you get immunity from whatever it is you’re vaccinating against. This leaves a 5% chance that the vaccine is ineffective for you and won’t produce the necessary antibodies/memory in order to fight it off. That’s why the goal is to vaccinate as many people as possible for herd immunity to further protect those that are either unable to take the vaccine, or whose body had an ineffective response to the vaccine (5%) chance. Thing is no one knows yet if the vaccine prevents someone who was vaccinated and contracts the virus from spreading it to others (you contract the virus, body properly fights it off, but can you still spread it?). That last paragraph is why a lot of medical experts are advising against loosening restrictions quickly as they roll out the vaccines. Someone please check me on all of this, but it’s my understanding.

In the meantime, the election is over and the economy should be reopened 100% and people should be allowed to resume their lives and get back to normal. I tested positive about a month ago with no crazy symptoms outside of a small sinus drip and loss of taste and smell. I was very fortunate for that. At the same time, the numbers are locally growing. The more people I talk to, the more they tell me that they either had it or knows someone who had it. As far as the mask, it can be a pain; but if you are asymptomatic, your case can be a possible death sentence for someone else if you were to give it to them. But I do agree that we should not shut the world down. Local businesses will never recover with some of these restrictions which I think are not necessary.

But I do agree that we should not shut the world down. Local businesses will never recover with some of these restrictions which I think are not necessary. By now everyone knows the possible consequences of the virus. But the fact remains that over 99% of the people that test positive for the virus survive, the vast majority without any significant symptoms or consequences. I feel that businesses should be allowed to reopen at 100% so that the economy can start to get back on track and public activities should be allowed to resume as normal. If we need to continue wearing masks that's OK, but how much of an affect that has had is questionable in my opinion. Let each individual decide for themselves where they want to go or not go. I think that forcing businesses to reduce capacity to 25% or 50% has had little or no effect in preventing the spread of the virus. As I said before, the cat is out of the bag and there is no putting it back in!
