The perfect replacement for Rush would be Donald J Trump Jr. The liberals would run around like their hair was on fire. It would be soooo Rush Limbaugh for that to happen. Ratings would go through the roof. He would not need advertising either but would get some I'm sure. Rush was a lifelong conservative and put in the work to accomplish what he did. Jr. is most definitely not a lifelong conservative (donated to Hillary Clinton in 2007), and is just a political opportunist like his father. Even if tapped, I highly doubt he'd be willing to put in the work required. Also depends on what the goal is. If the goal is to own the libs, sure he's a fine choice. If the goal is to have someone carry the torch of conservatism into the future, not sure any true conservative would want Don Jr. being put up to task.

People don't realize how hard the truly successful show hosts work on their craft, and the hours upon hours of research (even if just biased sources) and prep put into a three hour show. Think about it. Rush talked for three hours every day, and he didn't do argument/debate format like O'Reilly and Hannity did, which fills some time. I started listening to talk radio in college, right around the time of the build up to the second Iraq War. Since then, the national hosts I enjoyed the most were Neal Bortz and Bill O'Reilly in the early 2000s. Enjoyed the flow and format of his show more than Rush. 5-10 minute intro, 15 minute interview/discussion with a "specialist" on the topic of debate, then 30 minutes of phone calls of people expressing their views and reactions to the discussion topic. I enjoyed that much better than just three hours of one person talking. However, Rush was a trend-setter. Like Jay said, he saved AM and talk radio. Fox News's evening opinion shows with debate then followed. Suddenly, sports radio and Sportscenter became more about debate than sports updates and non-debate discussion. While I liked the debate stuff for politics/news, I really hate it for ESPN. I wish Sportscenter would go back to the days of Dan Patrick and Keith Olberman giving me highlights and box scores. But alas, here we are. And like him or not, Rush Limbaugh was a primary force behind those developments. He was highly successful, extraordinary ratings on dying AM radio, and suddenly news and sports channel execs wanted a piece of that action.

He was a hateful person who hurt millions. While I do not wish ill on anyone and I will not revel in others' misery, he will not get sympathy from me either. Well if your statement above is one based in personal morale and integrity, rather than partisan, then that means you said very similar upon Ted Kennedy's death. Correct?

Ahh, the good ole days when psychopaths like Olberman at least tried to act normal and sane in front of the public and just gave us sports news and not biased journalism. R.I.P Rush, I’ll make sure my kids read his history book series and learn how special this American experiment is.

One peddled hate for profit. RBG fought for the rights of the same people that limbaugh hated. Not even in the same league and they should not be spoken of as such. I’m sure the millions of unborn babies will disagree with you there. And topics you disagree with always doesn’t equal “hate.” Like lots of conservatives, he was all about balls of cells having rights but after they have been born, not so much. I do not believe in Hell so I cannot say that is where he is now but ... Its not disagreement. Dude was downright hateful. Just because you agree with the hate does not make it not hateful.

More leftist blanket statements. What specifically did he disagree with people's rights outside of maybe abortion? And what was so hateful about him?

I have chosen to take the high road about Rush and focus on what he meant to radio.
But if you have to ask what was hateful about him, you've paid exactly zero attention to what he's said and done on his show. You do get a pass for the first few years since you were just a baby. And, no, I'm not going to do the research for you.

You are obviously one of those on the left that never listened to Rush. Had you done so, there is no way you could make those comments about him with a straight face. He was all about trying to lift up people, not hold them down. Therefore, since you are just relying on what you have heard from other uninformed leftist, I will give your opinion all the credit it deserves, that being none!

Or those with AIDS? Or Native Americans? Or those looking for affordable contraception? Or poor kids who need food? Or the NFL? Or the NBA? Or women? Just google search some of those topics and rush quotes and you will find out how hard he tries to “lift those people up.”

Playing celebratory music while speaking of people who died of AIDS was not enough? Of course he was the ICON of the conservative movement, he gave your hate a voice. You could add the Magic Negro spiel or the feminazi shtick or calling the Clinton's 13 year old child a dog, or doubting that smoking causes cancer (karma right there), or doubting Michael J Fox's Parkinson's or how slavery had its merits or how segregated busing should be brought back or his comments about Sandra Fluke or how he was fired for telling a caller to take the bone out of his nose. I get that some of you love that stuff because its your beliefs, as well.
