Granted I never ate out for breakfast much in Lafayette when I lived in Acadiana. Really don't eat out for breakfast now these days, so my experience is limited. Also, I'm not a huge breakfast meal guy. I'll eat leftover rice & gravy or pizza for breakfast all the time. Love me some grits when cooked right, but like them better with shrimp. Leftover fried trout...slap a filet or two into a folded over piece of Evangeline Maid bread and enjoy the best damn breakfast on earth! In fact, as I type this, I'm eating a bowl of crawfish mac & cheese that I cooked for dinner Monday night when we were without electricity and sub-30 degrees outside.
That said, here goes:
Underrated: Billy's Again, goes back to me not being some huge breakfast good person. Their sausage, egg and cheese biscuits are good, but a place where I can spend $6 on breakfast and be full on delicious crawfish pies? Sign me up.
Overrated: Dwyer's Cafe
Yeah...I'd rather visit this place for lunch.
Properly Rated: T-Coon's The best sausage, egg and cheese biscuit I've ever bought. Also, I'm not normally a fan of white gravy, but the white sausage gravy there is delightful.
I'll also add that while I ate at Broken Egg only once when living in Louisiana, and that was probably 10+ years ago for lunch. However, the wife and I have been to the one that opened a couple years ago in Sugar Land several times for mid/late morning. Tough to beat having one of those tasty bloody marys with crab cakes and fried green tomatoes at 10am on a Friday off.

Agreed on the service. And it's usually over packed. And it's not cheap. Don't get me wrong, the food is very good. It's just not the vibe I want on a hungover Sunday morning. It's more of a place to take your parents or celebrate something. Tons here in Broussard. Get the monster breakfast and stay full until supper. Ever ordered their burrito with all the meats? Talk about HUGE!!!!!
