I knew there would be some disappointment here and I, too was disappointed.
But boy, am I encouraged.
We went out and competed against one of America's premier arms. We missed a couple of chances on offense, but the other guy gets to play, too.
Defensively we were solid. Osborn is the real deal back there. I don't care what he hits.
Cooke had one bad outing last year. Hopefully this is it. I really believe he's better suited to start, but that's just my opinion.
If it's later in the season, Durke finishes them. But you aren't going to leave a freshman out there on opening day to throw 100 pitches in that kind of cold. (and it was COLD).
Deggs has called Robertson a cross between Harrison and Kjerstad. I'll take that.
We face another great arm today. But we're loaded on the mound as well.
We may have lost yesterday but I think this team is going to be REALLY good by the time conference begins. We'll win plenty between now and then, too.
Sometimes in the middle of the emotion, we forget to talk about the good. There was a lot of good yesterday. It was a pretty fun 3-2 college baseball game.
I thought we looked like a fundamentally sound baseball club. With exception of the catcher interference, we were basically spotless on defense. I also love Osborn defensively. Thought he handled Durke especially well.
Outfield is fast. Kimple is about as complete a player as we’ve had here in a few years. Can’t wait to see him hit his stride.
Curious as to what’s up with Brogogno. He seemed to be the leader to start at SS. I thought Riola played just fine, just wondering about Brett.
As for Cooke.. Mental midget was probably a bit harsh but there are a few instances now with him that pressure seems to overcome his ability. I like him as a long middle relief role. We’ll see what happens I guess..
