There are days when we look like our record should be better and then there are days like today. Ive learn to accept this club is a .500 ballclub that will suprise us sometimes. They either dont have enough talent or dont have enough coaching. When that happens you will be consistently inconsistent. Effort is only good so many days in a week. Im starting to feel outside of a handful of guys, we lack ability to play a high level of D1 baseball. I would hope we get the right mix of hard nose players and get this thing turned around. At his point, our record likely reflects our ability. We have too many one dimensional players that gives the team the look of of a better team. Good hitters lacking defensive skills and the reverse makes us look better than we are. We make circus catches in the field and struggle with a clutch hit. Overall very frustrating, but we will have a winning reg season. Hopefully we make more progress going forward and I believe we will.

My biggest concern is the same recruiter that has been missing on a ton of players the last 6 years.....Will still be with the program which makes zero sense

We went in and he said he quit, totally caught us of guard, lol....vic come on man you know that isn't how it went down. A player doesn't tell a radio broadcaster and a supporter to join him in a meeting.

A player doesn't tell a radio broadcaster and a supporter to join him in a meeting. The way I’m reading this thread is that while Angel did quit, 3 others were cut from the team at the same time. So what the previous poster was alluding to is that why does it matter if 1 player quits when the Coach is making roster moves at the same time? I may be interpreting this wrong.

A player doesn't tell a radio broadcaster and a supporter to join him in a meeting. So you don't know what happened in the meeting. How do you know that the meeting did not go like this: Angel: Coach, I have not been on the mound since the TCU series and wanted to talk with you on where I stand for the rest of the season. Coach: Conor, you know that we really can't put you back out on the mound this season. Until we can get your control in check, that is where it stands. Angel: Coach, before this meeting, I had decided that I was going to submit for the draft this year as we really have not made any progress together in resolving my control issues over the last two years here. Now knowing that the team has no intentions on using or needing me for the rest of the year, I believe my best opportunities in the draft are to take the limited time remaining to get with coaches/instructors that believe that they can adjust my delivery to address my control issues. Thanks for all that you guys have tried for me but at this time it may be better for the team and my career for me to withdraw from the team. Coach: Conor, you are welcome to stay, but we understand.

Nobody was cut and roster moves will be made after the season and after exit interviews. There is no reason to makes moves now it isn't like we can just go add a kid from another team.

Of course me and Jay wasn't in the meeting but I have every reason to believe that the coaching staff wouldn't lie. There is no reason to. Deggs is a high character coach and there is no reason to lie about why the guy is no longer part of the team.

Looking back on it, there is no doubt that the coaching staff quit on Conor, right, wrong or indifferent. When confirmed by the coaching staff, Conor probably quit as there was no useful reason to continue. Work while you wait was no longer in the cards.

Do you really think this staff would quit on a kid? We need all the help that we can get. If any coach quits on a kid on there roster while at Louisiana then we need to chase those guys off. When I coached I always invested more time in the lower tier kids, because there was more satisfaction for that kid to succeed.

Lets face it, I am pretty sure you have never coached in a situation where your source of income depended upon winning in a business as big as college baseball. This coaching staff's job is to win games. When it became apparent to them that winning games was not in the cards with Angel, you can call it what you want, but the effect to him is that he was quit upon.

My biggest concern is the same recruiter that has been missing on a ton of players the last 6 years.....Will still be with the program which makes zero sense I watched a recent interview with current Alabama HC Brad Bohannon and former coach Mitch Gaspard (current hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at LaTech), both said similar things on the subject of recruiting. Gaspard said that is was difficult to recruit to Alabama when he first became coach regardless of financial support because they were not going to regionals very often. Kids are now committing to programs as freshmen in HS and the Cajuns had not been to a Regional since 2016. Deggs took over the program, most of the top kids in Louisiana and East Texas for 2020, 2021 were off the board. Thus the move to sign a large number of JC players and transfers in the portal. Going forward, I think we will see a larger number of HS kids signed but it is imperative that the Cajuns get to a regional going forward to give this program a boost. The 2021 HS Class looks pretty good right now. 2021 ClassThe 2022 HS Class is in the works. 2022

Lets piggy back off of what you just said. If there jobs and lively hood depends on results then wouldn't they do everything they could to get Angel or anyone else back on track? He wasn't being used and maybe he personally felt that way, who knows what his feelings are. But I can tell you this staff didn't quit on him personally. The guy throws 98, so I would try everything over and over to get any issues fixed. Throwing 98 isn't a dime a dozen.

I am pretty sure that they have tried everything in their arsenal to get him mound ready and it appears that they have failed. Robe has the same issue with Reagan Bazarr. Both coaching staffs wanted nothing more than to have those two guys throwing on the mound for Louisiana. Robe and staff were unable to fix Bazarr ( and apparently minor league coaching was not either)and Deggs/Ryan have not been able to fix Angel. That is not necessarily and indictment on either set of coaches but on the other hand does not require and indictment of Angel when the door was closed on "work while you wait." I see no instance in this case for a fan that proclaims to be a good fan of the program to also be a hit piece on this athlete. Like I posed to you on the other board "what good do you think can come from you labeling and attempting to trash this athlete on the schools message boards?
